Project Detail

The steel made by Tata in South Wales can be found all around you, from cars to construction machinery, the Millennium Stadium to filing cabinets and fridges. Our customers demand the best quality and it is our people that make it possible.

Corus was acquired by Tata Group in April 2007 and joined the Tata Steel family in a transaction that created one of the world’s largest steelmakers, with a major presence in Europe as well as Asia.

The Port Talbot and Llanwern sites are part of the Tata Steel Strip Products UK Business.
Strip Products UK makes hot-rolled, cold-rolled and metallic-coated strip steels for many customers in a variety of industries. These industries range from Automotive to Construction and Consumer Goods to Building Machinery.

RFS provide transportation and handling of hydrated lime, coal and coke to the steel works. RFS have provided 50 sheeted containers and a container handler along with skeletal trailers & tractor units.

Operating on a small concrete pad of only 15m x 100m, the containers have a payload of 28 – 30t and can be transported on highway, it takes less than 2 minutes to unload a full container and reload an empty container onto a train.

This  materials delivery method replaces the original road fed operation, thus alleviating long distance lorry movements and reducing Co2 emissions associated with this operation.
