The Olympic stadium design was launched on 7 November 2007.
The architect, Populous, previously designed Wembley Stadium, the Millennium Stadium, the O2 Arena, the Emirates Stadium and Ascot Racecourse.
The construction of the stadium was due to start in April 2008 ahead of scheduled commencement date of August 2008.
Construction of the stadium commenced three months early in May 2008 after the bowl of the stadium had been dug out and the area cleared.
RFS were contracted to undertake materials handling of aggregate to supply the Olympic Park construction site and associated concrete plants.
We utilised our largest capacity materials handler in the fleet and the largest capacity clamshell grab in use unloading rail wagons in the UK.
2 No materials handlers working in tandem to discharge up to 5No 1500 tonne trains per 24hr shift.
2 No loading shovels re-handling to stockpiles and loading out of circa 7000 tonnes per day.
Working within stringent timetables and delivery demands throughout the project.
